The Institute of Technology, Tralee and Cork Institute of Technology are merging to create the Munster Technological University (MTU). MTU will be a flagship University, leading and defining what it means to be a technological university. At its core it will be wholly responsive to its client groups in relation to all aspects of its organisation and especially through its three key pillars of activity: education; research and engagement. MTU sees these as an interrelated set of activities that will collectively make a significant contribution to individuals, communities and regional/national development. This is an exciting time for higher education institutes. The creation of Technological Universities in Ireland is the first such prospect since 1989. The MTU project has progressed to the final stage of the process towards Technological University Designation. 2.2 Contract Brief At this stage of the process we wish to review and audit our planning in respect of the MTU project. Drawing on best practice in the area of mergers and in particular mergers in higher education, we are seeking to conduct a review of the MTU Programme and Project to determine its suitability and to identify areas of improvement. We require a detailed review which will evaluate the components of the MTU Project including: • Programme structure (incl governance, management, etc.). • Programme resourcing. • Programme planning, implementation and management methodologies. • Programme plan. • Programme costs.
