Construction work for buildings relating to education and research

Tender description

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the National Measurement Standards Laboratory and the largest physical sciences organisation in the UK. NPL have identified the requirement for the provision of a new-build Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory (AQML) adjacent to the Darwin Building (Building 2) to continue the advance in Quantum Metrology. The new AQML building will incorporate 4 no. specialized laboratories located on the ground floor; tightly controlled for temperature, humidity, vibration, acoustics and RF interference. Via an atrium, this new building will adjoin the existing Darwin Building, which is to be refurbished to incorporate 7 no. laboratories on the ground floor (with RF shielding) along with 2 no. further floors of office space. The construction company will complete the design from RIBA Stage 3 and be procured via a two-stage process. There is an expectation that the successful Contractor will have prior experience, not only in the construction of high-specification laboratories, but will be able to demonstrate knowledge, capacity and experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM). Construction Completion is expected by 30.4.2018.
