Tender description
Camden Clinical Commissioning Group wishes to engage with a suitably qualified provider to undertake a pilot service for a DIY Health Education Programme. The contract value for this pilot service should be between £24,000 and £28,000 excluding VAT. DIY Health Pilot - Background. Camden CCG recently undertook a review of children and young people’s healthcare services in Camden. One of the results of this review, called All Together Better (ATB) found that: - Two-thirds of children attending Emergency Departments need no or very minor investigation or treatment – so potentially care could have been provided outside of hospital. Similarly, 20% of outpatient appointments with a general paediatrician in hospitals did not need input from a paediatrician. Parents consulted for the review reported variable levels of awareness about where to go for advice about how to manage minor illness, such as the minor ailment scheme and 111. Usage of these services was low amongst those attending Emergency Departments. As a result it was agreed to run a pilot programme that identifies parents that attend A&E or the GP practice more frequently than their peers and to work with that group of parents to co-produce a programme that enables them to correctly identify and manage minor ailments at home, to understand the appropriate sources of advice and support, be more comfortable in accessing a range of services and be more confident and capable parents, which will have cost saving benefits for the NHS. Project description. The objective of the programme is to increase parent’s knowledge and confidence so that they can correctly identify and manage minor childhood ailments, be comfortable in dealing with cuts, bumps and other childhood injuries, and be able to identify the most appropriate services for their family’s needs. The successful provider will: - identify and recruit the relevant cohort of parents by either a review of GP records or by using A&E attendance slips. - will work with the Commissioners and the cohort of parents to better understand their needs and to co-produce two courses of up to eight training events covering a range of topics such as, cold and flu, diarrhea, vomiting, feeding, ear ache, choking, cuts, bumps and other childhood injuries. The actual content to be determined by the group. - enlist relevant professionals (health visitors, GP’s, paediatrician, family support workers etc.) to deliver the weekly training sessions. - deliver a minimum of 2 courses, each course containing up to 8 weekly sessions depending on the needs of the group. - Following the delivery of the training events, will evaluate the project against the agreed outcomes. Outcomes envisaged include the group of parents demonstrate increased knowledge and confidence in looking after the health of their child and family. The evaluation tool to be used to be agreed with Commissioners.
