PHE Mo Flo Upgrade

Tender description

The MoFlo system at PHE is a unique facility contained within a custom-built high-containment Flexible Film Isolator allowing Containment level 3 analysis to be undertaken. The system is in regular use, it serves the immunology capability and needs of the research department on site at Porton. The system is over 10 years old and demand for its use has increased over the last two years with little end to this requirement in sight. Taking the age of the system into account, any down-time for servicing or repair has an impact on our work and it makes sense to upgrade to reduce the risk in the event of failure. This system generally has a life cycle of 5-6 years, so we are at the point where the system will begin to fail more frequently. In addition The current system is an analogue system due to its outdated analogue electronics, it is no longer supported by service contracts (lack of availability of parts). Income to support this facility comes from a wide variety of sources i.e. international and UK commercial, acedemic partners and GIA.
