A STUDY INTO UK LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF 5G

Tender description

The 2015 Conservative Manifesto included a commitment to ensure that Britain seizes the chance to be a world leader in the development of 5G, playing a key role in defining industry standards. The UK already hosts a number of important 5G projects, notably the 5G Innovation Centre at Surrey University and other relevant research in other UK universities. The referenced techUK report considers the UK’s capabilities in 5G and identifies the key technical challenges that must be overcome, in order to make the UK a true 5G powerhouse. We want to build on this work to identify and refine the technology areas where the opportunity exists for the UK to assume a leadership role. As well as a technology assessment, the potential economic benefits and opportunities for UK business must also be identified and quantified as far as possible.
