Tender description

One of the core duties of Natural England is to ensure protection and management of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), which are England’s very best wildlife and geological sites legally protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as amended by the Countryside and Rights of Way (CROW) Act 2000 and the Natural Environment and Rural Communities (NERC) Act 2006. In addition to SSSIs, Natural England’s core duties include looking after areas which have been given special protection under European Union’s Habitats and Birds Directives that provide increased protection for habitats, birds, plants and animals and are a vital part of global efforts to conserve the world’s biodiversity.
