GB-Banbury: HFS010-001 Healthcare Food Waste Prevention in Wales

The healthcare sector in Wales produces approximately 7,200 tonnes of food waste each year at a cost of around £13.7 million. The objectives of this work are to: - Workstream A: Onsite Delivery: Develop a replicable model for hospitals to achieve waste prevention through the delivery of a "live" learning and mentoring cluster project with the healthcare sector in Wales. This should pilot each stage of the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) /WRAP screen cast guidance (available at the following link: http://www.wrap.org.uk/content/preventing-waste-healthcare-sector) and assist the identified hospitals and/ or health boards to implement food waste prevention through the development and delivery of an Action Plan which realises savings within the timescale of the project. - Workstream B: Supply Chain: Work with a major food supplier into the healthcare sector in Wales to identify and pilot mechanisms to deliver reductions in food waste and optimise packaging over the course of the project.
