Design, Supply and Installation of Lighting Systems at Markievicz Bridge, Hyde Bridge and Pedestrian Footbridge, Rockwood Parade, Sligo

Tender description

As part of the ongoing Business Improvement Districts Project, Sligo Business District Partnership (SBDP) has committed to lighting three of its five central bridges which cross the magnificent Garavogue River which flows through the heart of Sligo city centre. SBDP believes that the permanent lighting installations on these structures will greatly increase the ‘experience’ of Sligo city centre and provide a lasting legacy to the city centre. Not only will the proposed lighting project provide a lasting legacy for the BIDs Project but it will make a sustainable impact in the town. The project will provide a welcoming atmosphere, attracting visitors in the first instance, increasing safety perceptions, increasing dwell time and encouraging repeat visits. This is strengthened by the fact that the lighting will have the ability to change colour, meaning many seasonal events can be tailored around the lighting of the bridges. The lighting project allows Sligo to utilise their historic bridges to highlight the unique character of the town, and create an atmosphere and presence to the Garavogue river and for the many businesses which run alongside it. Accordingly Sligo County Council, Project Partner in the INTERREG IVA Programme’s Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) Project, invites written proposals for the design, supply, installation and maintenance of lighting systems on three existing bridges, namely: 1. Markievicz Bridge 2. Hyde Bridge 3. Rockwood Parade Pedestrian Footbridge
