Wirral Dock Bridges Replacement

Tender description

<i>Replacement of key highway infrastructure (two bridges) on a principal road. An existing steel truss opening bridge will be replaced with a new steel box girder bascule bridge. An existing fixed truss bridge will be replaced with a new concrete fixed deck bridge. These bridges form a vital link in the Wirral strategic road network, facilitating access to the Port of Liverpool (Birkenhead), and major regeneration sites. The bridges are of particular importance as they form part of the Merseyside Freight Network, providing a key link between the Twelve Quays ferry terminal, the M53 Motorway and the Mersey Tunnels. </i><i>Wirral Council requires a design and build Contractor and seeks to significantly reduce future maintenance interventions and associated traffic congestion by replacing both bridges with modern equivalents having improved features and designed to require less maintenance. </i><i>The site is on the A554 Tower Road, between its junctions with A5139 Dock Road and Tower Wharf. </i> <i>OS Grid Reference: 332140,390177 to 332173,389746</i> <i>Postcode: CH41 1LG</i>
