Tender proposals for delivery of PEACE lll ‘Peace in the Fleadh’ River and Street Pageant/Carnival, Sligo

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann will take place in Sligo between 10th and 17th August 2014. Within the Fleadh a Sligo-based peace-building initiative will take place called Peace in the Fleadh. It is comprised of ten projects all of which have a distinct peace building element. Performances/events from the ten projects will be integrated into the overall Fleadh programme. The overall aim of Peace in the Fleadh is to use the platform of the Fleadh Cheoil to build on previous peace- building work in Co. Sligo using the power of music, song, dance and language to bridge cultural difference, promote understanding and address the legacies of conflict and partition. The Peace in the Fleadh River and Street peace Pageant/Carnival will be a stand-alone PEACE III event, bringing the peace theme of Fleadh 2014 to an audience of approximately 50,000 people. This pageant will be a flagship Peace III event providing a platform for PEACE III target groups and themes. The event will last approximately two hours and will take place on the streets of Sligo on the final evening of Fleadh 2014. The Pageant will be the result of work carried out with youth and community groups in the months preceding the Fleadh when they will have worked together to address themes including racism, peacebuilding, sectarianism, inclusion and cultural diversity among others. This river / street pageant will give visibility, welcome and recognition to members of ‘new communities’ in Sligo and demonstrate their positive contribution and creativity. This will improve trust and tolerance and will help create the conditions in which racist and sectarian incidents are less likely to take place. The successful tenderer will be responsible for organising all the workshops that culminate in the River and Street Peace Pageant and ensuring that a highly creative visual spectacular event is staged on the themes of Emigration, Building Bridges and Inclusion.
