Tender description

The Carlow Northern Relief Road Extension will run from the existing roundabout on the R430 Castlecomer Road to a new roundabout on the Numbers Road, and will in the future form part of the Carlow Ring Road. The new Road will be approximately 760 meters in length and will have a single carriageway cross-section. The Numbers Road will be upgraded for about 100m both sides of the new roundabout. Works include but are not limited to the construction of the new road alignments, new roundabout, associated drainage, attenuation pond, new footpaths, new kerbs, cycle lanes, road markings and signs and public lighting. The construction of the road, from its present terminal on the Castlecomer Road, as far as the Numbers Road will help to alleviate the traffic problems in Graiguecullen (particularly in the Numbers road area). The new off line section connects the existing roundabout on the Castlecomer Road to a new roundabout on the Numbers Road. The proposed scheme entails the construction of a new three arm roundabout on the Numbers Road and construction of a new arm to the existing Castlecomer Road roundabout.
