Tender description

Student residences scope The University is seeking expressions of interest from a main contractor for the design and build of student residences and associated public realm at the new Waterside Campus development in Northampton under a two stage design and build procurement process. The student residence and associated public realm contractor will be responsible for completion of the design from the end of RIBA stage 3, delivery of the student residential accommodation including an educational hotel, fixtures, fittings and equipment, commercial space, other ancillary spaces and associated public realm to the surrounding areas associated with the accommodation plots. The University has designed 1198 units to RIBA stage 3. This contract notice advertises the opportunity for this number. However the University reserves the right to reduce this number, to no lower than 1000 units. It is anticipated that the new building will be completed by January 2018 in readiness for use at the commencement of the academic year commencing in September 2018. Site wide development The University is embarking on a programme to create a wholly new campus on a brown field site providing state-of-the-art facilities and technology that will ensure all students have access to extensive and high quality teaching facilities, library, IT suites, studios, innovative learning spaces, laboratories, residential accommodation and social facilities. These do not form part of this procurement. The site will comprise higher education buildings, energy centre and fallow space available for leisure, retail, commercial development and University future expansion. The development is being delivered through a number of packages of work which are outlined below, of which the student residence is one of them. The University has appointed an infrastructure contractor whose scope includes the design, build and installation of the below ground services and roads inclusive of the district heating network. The University has appointed a separate academic and public realm contractor to deliver the academic buildings and will take overall main contractor responsibility for the shared construction areas. The University is about to procure an Energy Centre contractor who will provide heat to each University building on the Waterside Campus via a district heating network. The duration of the contract is expected to be 24 months. Procurement documentation can be access from https://in-tendhost.co.uk/universityofnorthampton/.
