Gel Permeation Chromatography/Light Scattering Detector Systems

A medical device research centre, based in NUI Galway, is to be established as part of a major Irish Government investment in science and technology through Science Foundation Ireland. The prime objective for CÚRAM will be to radically improve health outcomes for patients by developing innovative implantable medical devices to treat major unmet medical needs. Projects will involve the analysis of polymers and macromolecules through the process of Gel Permeation Chromatography and detector systems for the measurement of absolute molecular mass and size. This tender is for the purchase of two items: a) A dedicated gel permeation chromatography (GPC)/size exclusion chromatography (SEC) system for a multi user environment that can resolve polymers and macromolecules on the basis of size. It must include a detection system compatible with the GPC/SEC that can analyse and characterise polymers and macromolecules and allow for the determination of absolute molecular mass; and b) A light scattering system compatible with GPC/SEC capable of measuring polymer, macromolecule and particle size and molecular weight. Perspective companies can offer all or part of the requirements. The procurement of Part B may depend on whether the tender offers cost-saving and the purchaser reserves the right not to purchase if the offers are too high cost. Our preference is for a single source to provide both items - Gel Permeation Chromatography and Light Scattering Detector Systems. Due to budget restrictions, NUI Galway only purchased Part A Gel Permeation Chromatography System at the time of award.
