Tender description

Tenders are invited from suitably qualified and experienced contractors to undertake the restoration of Oakham Castle, Oakham, Rutland. Oakham Castle, situated off the Market Square in the centre of the historic town of Oakham and adjacent to Oakham School, is an historic site of national importance. The Great Hall and Entrance Gates are listed Grade I. The site is a Scheduled Monument. Rutland County Council, working under the supervision of Historic England, now seek a contractor to undertake the restoration works. These works are set out in detail in the accompanying documents but briefly include adding a new toilet block, associated drainage works, external repairs and conservation and internal refurbishment of the Great Hall, improvements to the curtain walling, and improvements to the grounds. Contractors will be able to demonstrate considerable experience of working on sensitive projects of a similar nature. IMPORTANT Interested contractors should register their interest now with John Wright (see section 3 above). As documents are downloadable, the identities of interested parties will not be known to the Council. Registration is necessary in order that any communications can be directed to any potentially interested bidders. Registration has no other purpose and implies no commitment to submit a tender. The tender criteria and weightings shown in Appendix F are given in good faith but have not, at the time of issue of these documents, been approved by the Rutland County Council Cabinet. Cabinet is due to meet in Mid July. Any amendments which may be required will be issued to all registered potential bidders. Tender responses must be in the form of two (2) hard copies plus one (1) CD and must be returned in a sealed package not marked with the bidder’s name to: Chief Executive Rutland County Council Council Offices Catmose Oakham LE15 6HP By no later than 12:00 noon on Friday 24th July 2015. Late responses will not be considered.
