Provision of Public Funeral Services and Coroners (Removal of Bodies)

Tender description

The London Borough of Camden wishes to tender for the provision of two services , public funeral services and Coroners Services ( Removal of Bodies). These services are being advertised as Lots - bidders able to tender for either service separate contracts will be issued for both. Public Funeral Services is an externally focused, statutory service, covered by the Public Health Act 1984 (Control of Diseases), for the burial or cremation of persons whose demise is within the boundary of LB Camden and where no next of kin exists, or is willing or able, to arrange, or fund a funeral. Coroners Services (Removal of Bodies) is an external statutory service for the removal of bodies reported to the Coroner. Bodies are removed from the place of death to an appointed mortuary. Coroners carry out autopsies where unusual or unnatural deaths occur. It is a statutory requirement that bodies in this category are removed to designated mortuaries for examination. This service is being procured on behalf of the Inner North London Coroner’s jurisdiction which is a consortium of the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Camden is the designated lead. The length of contract is 3 years with the option to extend. The total annual contract value for each Lot is approximately; Public Funeral Services - £80,000 Coroners Services (Removal of Bodies) - £74,000 The contract is to be let for an initial period of 3 years from the 1 October 2015. There may be an option to extend the contract through one, 1 year extension at the sole discretion of the Council.
