The Heritage Council (HC) requests tenders from interested parties who wish to forward proposals relating to the development and maintenance of Heritage Maps

Tender description

2.1 Initiated in 2010, Heritage Maps is led by the Heritage Council along with the Local Authority Heritage Officer Network (www.heritagecouncil.ie/maps) with the intention to provide an accessible, user-friendly, highly-functional viewer displaying a broad-ranging, diverse range of Irish heritage datasets including land-based and marine heritage. In the long term, Heritage Maps will form a key element of a heritage data and information portal that could include thematic viewers, linked data on county heritage and including archaeological excavation reports, bird sensitivity areas etc. Data sets and metadata 2.2 Heritage Maps includes a wide range of heritage data sets gathered at national and local authority levels. It also includes datasets from tourism and land use planning to provide context for the heritage data. Where possible, data is ingested live to the viewer. The metadata relating to data sets displayed in the viewer is harvested from the Irish Spatial Data Exchange and Marine Data Online as appropriate. However in cases where metadata is not in existence the viewer does include an explanatory note to assist the user (e.g. National Museum finds). The HC will include its own metadata on the Dept. of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht metadata catalogue; the number of datasets the HC generates itself, however, is very limited – three are included at present.
