This is an award notice for the NHS Outreach Health Checks Service. The original advert is as follows: Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is inviting expressions of interest from a single (or single consortium) Provider for an NHS Outreach Health Checks Service. The aim of the NHS Health Checks programme is to delay the onset of atherosclerosis by systematically screening the eligible population to assess risk factors that contribute towards Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) whilst not increasing the gap in life expectancy. All patients are offered personalised support to reduce any increased risk, placing particular emphasis on lifestyle change. Patients are eligible for a check once every five years. Nationally, the percentage of people attending a Health Check following invitation is variable. Earlier prevention and detection of disease cannot occur if people do not attend the appointment. During 2013/14, 49% of patients in England attended a check. In Southend, the figure was higher at 58%; falling short of the originally modelled 75% uptake. Local Authorities are required to increase the uptake rate annually. This aim will be achieved by the commissioning of an outreach service that targets the most deprived communities, whilst maintaining high standards of care. The contract term will be 3 years from 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2018. Dependent on the Contractor’s performance, requirement and funding, there is also an option for the Council to further extend this contract for additional periods of up to an aggregate of 2 years. The latest expiry date of the contract will be 31st March 2020. Southend-on-Sea Borough Council welcomes submissions from all organisational types, including the Third Sector. It is estimated that the contract value will be in the region of £400,000 (for the three + two year term).
