Regional Museum Collections Advice

Tender description

Quotations are invited for the provision of a regional collections advisory service for Museum Development East Midlands (MDEM) from April 2015 to March 2018. The contract would also involve setting up and maintaining a regional conservation network MDEM is hosted by Leicestershire County Council. The East Midlands region is defined as Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. There are currently 116 Accredited and working towards museums in the region (c. March 2015). The activities that the Regional Collections Adviser should undertake: o Operate an effective collections enquiry service – provide guidance by telephone and email – respond to enquiries and initiate contact where appropriate (potentially directed by MDEM centrally) o Promote and monitor budget for MDEM Collections Access grants (in liaison with MDEM manager) o Deliver a minimum of 3 collections care training events across the region per year (equivalent to a full day workshop) o Make advisory visits where deemed appropriate to museums o Set up and maintain a regional conservation network of individuals and professionals within a range of organisations to benefit museums, MDEM and conservators/ those working in collections conservation o Attend MDEM team meetings and liaise/ share information with wider team about interventions with museums o Contribute to development of content for regional training programme by identifying areas of need in terms of collections training provision o Signpost museums to relevant collections support resources and other sources of information o Promote and advocate MDEM offer o Liaise with regional accreditation adviser (and museum mentors) when appropriate o Maintain a watching brief on museums and report issues to MD manager
