****This Contract has been awarded to Sioen Ireland***** In July 2013BIM will introduce a new scheme to provide on- going safety training for the skippers and crew of fishing vessels and aquaculture work boats. The Enhanced Training and Equipment Safety Scheme will comprise: • A 1-day taught unit developed by BIM as a natural complement to the existing 3-day basic safety training. The qualification obtained on foot of this course (the Enhanced Training and Equipment Safety Course) will last for 5-years and be subject to renewal thereafter. • Grant aid towards the provision of a Personal Flotation Device (hereafter referred to as a ‘PFD’) fitted with an integrated 406 MHz Personal Locator Beacon (hereafter referred to as a ‘PLB’) for all fishermen and those operating aquaculture workboats. This integrated unit will hereafter be referred to as an ‘Integrated PFD/PLB’. i ) Candidates that successful complete the 1- dayEnhanced Training and Equipment Safety Course will be provided with a voucher that guarantees payment, by BIM, of the cost of procuring an Integrated PFD/PLB’. ii ) These vouchers may be redeemed solely against the purchase of the Integrated PFD/PLB approved under this tender and no other and only at the distribution points (retail outlets) specified by the successful tenderer. iii ) While (in total) it is expected that up to 4,000 candidates will avail of this scheme over the coming 3 years.
