Tender description

Overview of labour market in construction conservation (a) To identify the component trades and jobs that make up the estimated 17,000 people employed in the Built Heritage Sector according to the Ecorys report, by reviewing the draft list of trades and jobs (provided below) and assess its completeness3 (b) To collate and present any relevant labour market statistics related to these construction trades. Definition of standards (c) For each trade on the appended list, to identify (from existing reports, syllabuses, occupational profiles and competency specifications for the relevant craft skills, etc.) the skill competencies and standards for accreditation for conservation workers. (The labour market statistics will tell us how many carpenters or plasterers there are, but not whether or not they can be called conservation carpenters or plasterers). All tasks or jobs on the list must be examined to identify and document the conservation component. Training, skills and labour market deficit identification (d) Compile a list of training courses available in Ireland which respond to the craft skills needs of the building conservation sector in a format that will be presentable on the Heritage Council’s website, and (e) Establish the anticipated future needs for conservation craft skills, and at what level or standard (e.g. apprenticeships, traineeship, master craftsperson).
