Tender description

The Health Research Board’s mission is to improve people’s health, patient care and health service delivery by: • Leading and supporting excellent research by outstanding people within a coherent health research system; and • Generating knowledge and promoting its application in policy and practice. In 2013 the HRB and the Drugs Policy Unit of the Department of Health agreed that part of the annual budget of the National Documentation Centre on Drug Use be allocated to commissioning a series of evidence reviews on interventions in the areas of drug and alcohol prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and harm reduction. The DPU will approve the topic selected for each review before it is commissioned. Project description Aim To prepare and disseminate an evidence review in the context of the implementation of selected actions under the Interim National Drugs Strategy 2009-16 (NDS) so as to facilitate Drugs and Alcohol Task Forces (DATF)and other stakeholders to make evidence-based decisions on the selection, implementation and evaluation of interventions. Objectives To review and disseminate evidence in line with the protocols, standards and methodology already developed by the HRB Evidence Centre based on best practice elsewhere, and in collaboration with the National Documentation Centre on Drug Use (NDC). For the purposes of this tender an evidence review is defined as: An evidence review answers a specific research question regarding the selection or implementation of an intervention. It involves a rapid synthesis of existing evidence and identifies what is likely to work in a given setting and what is likely to fail. Governance The commission will be managed on an on-going basis by the National Documentation Centre on Drug Use (NDC). The successful tenderer/s will work under the supervision of HRB’s topic expert and the Project Manager.
