Contract Award Provision of surveys of possible Marsh Fritillary sites & habitats Roscommon, Mayo & Galway

Tender description

The Contract is awarded to Botanical, Environmental and Conservation Consultants LTD (BEC) The Marsh Fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) is listed on Annex II of the EU Habitats Directive. This Habitats Directive listing obliges Ireland to undertake surveillance of the species [as per Article 11, Habitats Directive] and to report regularly on the species conservation status [as per Article 17, Habitats Directive]. The conservation status of the species has been assessed in the Article 17 reports covering 2001-2006 and 2007-2012. The most recent assessment was unfavourable based on future prospects through increased pressures on the habitat and existing evidence of a declining population. NPWS is calling for tenders to undertake targeted sample surveys of the Marsh Fritillary that will assist Ireland meet its obligations for the species under the Habitats Directive.
