Request for tender for the provision of a Road Safety educational resource suitable for Junior Cycle which incorporates Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

Tender description

The contract has now been awarded to Science Ireland. The Road Safety Authority is currently developing a ‘Short Course’ for Junior Cycle in preparation for the changes to Junior Cycle which will come in to effect in September 2014. This resource will comprise of 100 hours teaching instruction and will include much road safety information which is designed to enhance the education and safety of students while they use Ireland’s roads, the safety of the members of their family and the wider community within which they live. Later in life they will go on to be drivers and the learning they undertake now will contribute significantly to ensuring they will develop into better safer drivers who have a greater understanding of their own vulnerability and the vulnerability of others while using our roads. The Road Safety Authority has developed the ‘Short Course’ considerably. The ‘Short Course’ must, as per NCCA Guidelines;  be relevant,  enable students to actively participate in their communities,  ensure insofar as is possible that students become resourceful and confident learners,  contribute to equality of opportunity, participation and outcome for all,  offer engaging and enjoyable experiences,  contribute to physical, mental and social well- being.  build on their learning to date,  contribute to learning of the future, in particular in the disciplines of numeracy, literacy etc.  support them in developing learning skills,  assist students in meeting the challenges of life, beyond school.
