PAEDIATRIC CONTINENCE SERVICES FOR NORTH EAST ESSEX CLINICAL COMMISSIONING GROUP

Tender description

NHS North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (the “CCG”) wishes to establish a single Provider contracts for the provision of Paediatric Continence Service to patients registered with a North East Essex GP surgery. Continence problems are prevalent in children and young people, particularly in younger children. If the conditions are not appropriately managed and become chronic they may result in referral, treatment and/or surgery in secondary care. It is estimated that providing effective assessment and management of continence problems in primary and community settings could reduce emergency admissions by up to 80% and significantly reduce consultant-led outpatient appointments. There is also the potential to reduce costs further by reducing the demand for continence products such as nappies or pads. Children, including those with disabilities, who have their continence needs assessed and addressed at an early stage, may require no (or significantly less) healthcare and continence product resource as they transition into adult services. Those children for whom full continence cannot be reached require assistance to manage their condition and to obtain the highest levels of self-reliance possible NEE CCG is committed to providing equality of access and wishes to provide a service that actively addresses the continence related developmental needs of children with physical and learning disabilities. These children would benefit greatly from being regarded as individuals and with having their individual developmental milestones being set and achieved.
