Tender description
The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is a decentralised EU agency based in Lisbon. It provides the EU and its Member States with information on the nature, extent, consequences and responses to illicit drug use. It supplies the evidence base to support policy formation on drugs and addiction in both the European Union and Member States. The EMCDDA coordinates a network of some 30 national monitoring centres, or focal points, (the Reitox network) to gather and analyse country data according to common data- collection standards and tools. The results of this national monitoring process are supplied to the Centre for analysis, from which the Centre produces its Annual report on the state of the drugs problem in Europe and other outputs. The HRB is the designated Irish focal point to the EMCDDA. The research support will help to fulfil specific requirements of the EMCDDA contract and the requirements of other international organisations. They will also be required to prepare report synopses and articles and other dissemination materials. The assigned researcher will analyse epidemiological datasets and prepare selected data for submission to the EMCDDA according to EMCDDA specifications. They will also collect information from research papers and reports, policy documents and on-going research to provide a complete picture of the situation in Ireland relating to the drug-related topics mentioned in the background section. The research support will be required to prepare sections of Ireland’s annual national report for the EMCDDA containing the main results of new research, studies and surveys including a brief description of methods, sources, results, discussions and references. The description places findings of the studies in an Irish context and identifies study limitations. Data are submitted through standard tables and structured questionnaires according to EMCDDA instructions.
