National Observational Study of Drivers

Tender description

As part of actions set out in the Government 2013-2020 Road Safety Strategy to reduce road fatalities to 25 per million population by 2020, the RSA has decided to undertake observational surveys on mobile phone usage when driving, seatbelt usage, and drivers free speed in Ireland. The data will be used by RSA and the Government to monitor trends, determine the effectiveness of safety initiatives and to inform the on-going review of public policy in relation to road safety strategy. The proposed surveys will be carried out using pre- determined sites. Free Speed and Seatbelt usage surveys have been carried out since 1999 and are required to be conducted annually under the Road Safety Strategy 2013- 2020. The methodologies applied to previous Free Speed and Seatbelt surveys will be applied to this survey including observations of Drivers Mobile Phone usage.
