RTÉ seeks Expressions of Interest (EOI) from innovative string quartets of experience in classical music to deliver a broad range of services over a three year period beginning in quarter 1, 2014. Building on the achievements of RTÉ’s successive residences in Cork, the successful String Quartet will deliver an extensive range of performances in repertoire from the 18th century to the present day with a strong focus on 20th/21st century Irish music. Activities in Cork City and County will form a significant part of the Quartet’s work. Complementing a programme of high quality performances on the island of Ireland, the successful Quartet will engage with a range of education and community activities. RTÉ as Ireland’s public service media organisation wishes to source an innovative ensemble which has an ability to develop opportunities through broadcasts, recordings, multi-media, digital and social media initiatives at local, national and international levels. RTÉ welcomes in particular applications from string quartets where artistic and financial collaborations with other arts and local authority organisations can be developed over the life of the contract. In addition to being an excellent musical ensemble, business and organisational capacity is essential in maximising the potential of the agreed work programme.
