N59 Westport to Mulranny: N59 Rossow Bends - Geotechnical Consultancy Services

Tender description

On the 2nd July, 2012 ABP confirmed the CPO and approved the NIS for the N59 Westport to Mulranny Road Project. The first section to be delivered is the N59 Rossow Bends. The detailed design is to be prepared by Mayo County Council with the aid of a number of specialist consultants. It is proposed that the detailed design and contract documents shall be prepared during 2013 with construction beginning in 2014. The N59 Rossow Bends is for the provision of 1.8km of Type 3 single carriageway and includes a 600m offline section, a 19m cut, the construction of 2 new river bridges and 1 river bridge widening and the removal of an at-grade crossing of the Great Western Greenway. Additional lands were identified along the route, and included in the CPO, to allow for the recovery of soft material. These recovery areas are within easy haulage distances from the location of large soft ground deposits. A Code of Practice was developed for the reinstatement of the Recovery Areas and proposed stockpile heights have been estimated. ABP conditions of the NIS requires that all spoil generated within the scheme shall be directed to these recovery areas and that an individual method statement be prepared for each recovery area. It is anticipated that the recovery areas identified for the N59 Rossow Bends Project could be used for the recovery of soft material and/or storage of excess suitable material for use on other sections of the N59 Westport to Mulranny project at a later date. MCC now wishes to procure Geotechnical Consultancy Services.
