Neighbourhood Renewal Assessment in Swansea

Swansea’s existing Renewal Area in Hafod was declared in 2001. The declaration followed a Neighbourhood Renewal Assessment (NRA) study of the area that included an in-depth house condition survey, environmental conditions study, community meetings / workshops, resident and business postal questionnaires. The Hafod Renewal Area Programme comes to an end in March 2013 and the Council wishes to explore the need to declare a new Renewal Area from April 2013. In 2010 a detailed private sector house condition survey was completed. This gave an up to date picture of housing conditions in Swansea and highlighted areas potentially requiring targeted intervention to arrest further housing decline. The Building Research Establishment (BRE) were subsequently commissioned to conduct a detailed analysis of survey results and refine the data to determine the need for, and location of, a NRA. A suitably qualified and experienced consultant is required to undertake a NRA within a defined geographical boundary and submit a detailed report including options appraisal of findings including a developed action plan for the area.
