This is largely defined as the area within the line of the former town walls and includes the modern commercial town centre. The purpose of the Urban Design Framework is to set out the principal objectives to be pursued in relation to the Heritage Quarter and Town Centre as assets of national and international worth with a distinct urban form and historical evolution. The framework will also seek to facilitate the continued vibrancy of Drogheda as a dynamic, growing urban centre which plays a pivotal role along the Eastern Corridor. The Framework also seeks to emphasize the need to continue to protect the heritage assets while develop the economic, recreational, and tourism potential of Drogheda having regard to its natural setting and heritage. In this latter sense, the Urban Design Framework must promote the continued development of the Heritage Quarter as a place to invest, work, live and recreate.
