Clare Local Development Company wishes to appoint a Microsimulation modeler to work on a collaborative research project between a number of Local Development Companies and the Teagasc Rural Economy and Development Programme to develop a Spatial Microsimulation model and use it to undertake 5 case studies. The researcher will be based as a hosted researcher at the Rural Economy Development Programme in Teagasc Mellows Campus Athenry near Galway City.The role will involve both undertaking analysis and disseminating results to relevant stakeholders in each of the local development areas and also in the scientific and mainstream media.The objective of this study will be to- Understand the linkages between agriculture and the wider economy so as to measure the impact of changes in the agricultural sector- Within a spatial scale understand the flows between agriculture and other sectors and vice versa so as to understand which areas are affected- Understand who in the rural economy is affected by changes in agricultural sector incomes. These include not only farm incomes, but also the incomes of employees in related businesses and the incomes of owners and investors.
