Tender description
The GSI collection of drill core is an essential component of the national data bank on the bedrock geology and mineralization of Ireland. It has been built up over many years from GSI’s own drilling and selected contributions from mineral exploration company donations. The GSI core store holds approximately 300,000 metres of drill core which is consulted by GSI staff as well as mineral exploration and research geologists on an ongoing basis. However, the current store facility in Sandyford is full. It has been decided that some core will be disposed of to make room for new material. It is urgent that the existing core holdings be carefully and expertly assessed in order to carry out this task. This purpose of this contract is to make recommendations to the GSI on which core should be discarded.
