Group Based Adult Weight Reduction

Tender description

Dudley PCT seeks to strengthen and expand its weight loss referral service by awarding a multi service tender to suitably qualified and experienced providers offering group led adult weight management support. A multi service award will ensure patient choice and that the diverse needs of the Dudley community are met. Services should mirror the aspirations and guidance identified in National Institute For Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance (Clinical Guideline 43, 2006). Objective: To support adults with a BMI >30 (>27.5 for Asians), or >28 with existing co-morbidities (>23.5 for Asians with co-morbidities) to lose weight, at an appropriate rate, by incorporating healthy eating and physical activity into their everyday lives. As a consequence reducing clients risk factors for obesity related diseases such as type II diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Output: Clients are expected to lose 5% of their initial body weight during the 1st 12 weeks of attendance and where appropriate 2.5% thereafter. Support should be given to make longer term lifestyle changes to maintain weight loss post programme.
