A1 Lane Head to Shilbottle Underpass Refurbishment

Tender description

The proposed works include refurbishment works to Shilbottle Road Bridge and replacement of the north and south bound carriageway surfacing between Snipe House and West Cawledge. These works are mainly to be carried out during carriageway closures with single lane contra-flow ensuring that the highway remains open at all times. Works affecting the A1068 Shilbottle Road will have to take place during lane closures with one way traffic control in place. Access to and from the A1 at the junction with the A1068 will be limited but signing will be provided to advise of alternative routes. The existing bridge deck and substructures require major maintenance works including removal of cracked and deliminated concrete to the edge beams and substructures; concrete repairs to the abutment and intermediate pier; installation of cathodic protection system; re-construction of the longitudinal joint between the twin decks; waterproofing and re-surfacing of the twin decks; replacement of the transverse movement joints; and replacement of the vehicle restraint system. The works are expected to take approximateley 30 weeks to complete.
