Tender description

A main ground investigation is required to provide sufficient geotechnical, geological, contamination and hydrological information allowing the detailed design of foundations for eleven MS4 variable message signs (VMS) along the A1, A19 and A194(M) trunk road and motorways forming the “Newcastle Box” around the Tyneside conurbation in the North East of England. The main ground investigation works are integral to achieving the scheme objectives of reducing risk and selecting appropriate foundation solutions that minimise construction time. To this end the main ground investigation is required to: · Determine the depth of shallow rockhead; · Confirm the presence/ absence of shallow mineworkings; · Assess the potential for chemical attack on the substructure; · Ascertain near surface groundwater conditions; · Provide information for preliminary slope stability assessment; · Identify any potential existing contamination
