A590 Queen Street to Tank Square

Location The scheme is located on the A590 in Ulverston, between Queen Street junction and Quebec Street junction. The carriageway is a mixture of urban dual carriageway and wide single carriageway. The works are to both eastbound and westbound carriageways. Details of Work The works involve the following: - Improvement work to provide two unrestricted running lanes in both directions, from the junction of the A590 with Princes Street and Queen Street, to a point approximately 150m west of the junction with Quebec Street and the A590, including the entirety of Tank Square Roundabout. - Associated civils works will involve: carriageway re-surfacing between the above extents, kerbing works, upgrading of the existing traffic signals and traffic signs and the installation of a new street lighting arrangement. The works are programmed to commence on the 7th September 2009 and be completed by 27th November 2009, a period of 12 weeks. Traffic Management It is envisaged that the works will be undertaken in phases under traffic signal control. The existing speed limit is 30mph. There will be a mandatory 10mph speed restriction over the full length of the works when using convoy working.
