Tender description

HM Prison Service maintains several prison industries that employ prisoners in purposeful activity and help them to learn skills that will contribute towards their employment upon release. One of the key industries is the clothing and textiles industry which employs around 2,700 prisoners in various prisons across the country. Under the supervision of the industry managers, these prisoners prepare and produce a range of garments which are distributed for use by all prison establishments. The Authority intends to award one or more four-year framework agreements, commencing in the summer of 2009, for the supply of various textiles materials for use by the the prison industries. The estimated aggregate value of these agreements is considered to be in the region of £18-20 million over the four-year period.
