OS3846 FRAMEWORK FOR DIGITAL IMAGING EQUIPMENT

Tender description

The British Library is currently engaged in a wide range of projects aimed at digitising material from its extensive non-digital collections. The projects currently underway include the on-going digitisation of parts of the journal collections to support publishers in their efforts to provide content digitally. In addition the library is creating digital copies of a wide range of material, from Newspapers to theses and books to support the development of national initiatives to make more of its collections accessible on-line. To support these and future programmes of work the library wishes to tender for a framework contract to provide digitisation equipment and appropriate associated software. Associated provision of hardware and software support and training may also be required. The potential equipment requirements fall into four categories. 1. A range of digital book scanning equipment with scanning capacities from A3 up to A0 with a resolution at least to 300 DPI and capable of producing colour, greyscale or bitonal outputs. 2. Digital microfilm scanning equipment for the conversion of existing microfilm collections. 3. Equipment for the conversion of digital images onto microfilm where an archival copy is required. 4. Single shot digital camera equipment for the capturing of images of large format printed materials e.g. broadsheet newspapers, maps, plans etc.. Camera should be capable of a minimum of 39 million pixels. Associated stands, adjustable tables/baseboards and lighting.
