Supply of Wheels, Tyres & Brakes to Prison Industries

HM Prison service is holding a competitive tendering exercise for the provision of wheels, tyres and brakes to prison industries. The prison industries employ prisoners in various capacities making a variety of items for the internal and external markets. These industries provide out-of-cell activities to prisoners and, wherever possible, to instil in them a work ethic to help them gain skills, qualifications and work experience in order to improve their employment prospects upon release. The engineering workshop at HM Young Offenders Institute (HMYOI) at Stoke Heath produces a one-tonne brake trolley for internal use within prison establishments. The production of this trolley requires the external supply of wheels, tyres & brakes. Stoke Heath produce about a dozen trolleys each month. In addition, the engineering workshop at HM Prison Wymott provides a repair service for the trolleys produced at Stoke Heath. Spare wheels, tyres & brakes are often required in order to repair damaged trolleys.
