Tender description

The contract is to provide a vital, fully managed Safety Equipment Store service, currently based at BBC TV Centre in London, which will provide fundamental safety equipment and the necessary expertise and competence to manage that equipment across the BBC. The service provider will need an in-depth knowledge of both the broadcasting and health & safety industries, as the contract will cover all areas of BBC Production, Outside Broadcast, News, Nations & Regions and World Service operations based in the UK and overseas bureaux. The Safety Stores will be manned 6 days a week with the flexibility to provide out of hours cover in emergency and for emergency responses to any breaking news items in both the UK and overseas. They will provide transport so that both routine and emergency situation deliveries can be made to BBC premises across London and the UK and also so that regular visits can be made to other BBC sites across the UK and the Nations and Regions to check and inspect certain items of safety equipment which may be held there. They will also be involved with the BBC’s shipping contractors to help facilitate the movement of any equipment being sent both home and abroad. The stock of equipment that will be held in the safety stores will cover the entire range of equipment that may be needed by BBC production teams from camping gear, harnesses, lifejackets, various consumables, wet weather gear and fire extinguishers to public order packs, flak jackets, helmets and trauma first aid packs to name but a few examples. Part of the equipment will be owned by the BBC and managed by the service provider, but the service provider will also supply their own equipment which will be available for BBC use.
