SC3777 WEB ARCHIVING INFRASTRUCTURE HOSTING SERVICE

Tender description

This Contract is for provision of IT infrastructure, installation of Web Archiving applications software (toolset) for operational use, and support of its operation, from a date to be agreed in January or February 2008. The Contract will be with the British Library, for a term of four years, with annual reviews. The British Library currently leads a consortium of UK organisations who together have collected an Archive of over 3,000 website ‘snapshots’ in a compressed format for permanent storage. The Archive stands at 1.6 Tb of data (July 2007), and we are adding to it about 50Gb of new snapshots per month. We aim to replace the current Web Archiving software with a new toolset which we have integrated from open-source components, at the start of this Contract. We will convert and migrate the existing archive into the new system after we have proved it operationally. The Archive is made available via a website for free and open public searching - see http://www.webarchive.org.uk/ Changes in software and process are possible – which may require changes in access control, volume of transactions (throughput), data storage capacity, and potentially extraction of copies of subsets of the data. This contract is to provide the following key services: Infrastructure provision Servers, rack space, power and other managed services, with general availability in excess of 97% 08:00-20:00 GMT Mon-Fri. Fault detection and repair, planned upgrades and replacements. Networking and internet connection Current bandwidth approx 300 Mb per month. Disk storage Including indexes, storage capacity needs to grow at up to 0.1 Tb per month. Data security, back-up and recovery Security protection and controls Technical operations support UK working hrs Mon – Fri.
