Tender description
The British Library’s networked access control system is deployed at the St Pancras, Colindale, Micawber Street and Boston Spa (West Yorkshire) sites. It is used for access control and for monitoring intruder alarms, glass breakage detection, display case alarms and panic alarms. The current system is the Siteguard system, marketed and installed by ADT. This system, which is based upon the Gardner Janus system, has ADT-proprietary, intelligent access controllers and runs on a Paradox database. The Library now wishes to ensure that our access control system provides a cost-effective, reliable, flexible, expandable and resilient system to meet our current and expected needs for a minimum of the next 5 years. The contract will be for the supply and commissioning of: a new database, the conversion of data and the replacement of all necessary ADT-proprietary elements of the hardware to create a system which is reliable, installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, provides reliable and comprehensive reporting facilities which do not compromise the live system and which can be supported by our incumbent maintenance provider. It is anticipated that the contract will commence 2 January 2008. It is essential that all installation work is completed by 29 February 2008. The British Library prefers MS-SQL for its databases.
