Tender description

The British Library (BL) is currently in the procurement phase of a major systems renovation. As part of this initiative, the BL is seeking to procure an Integrated Remote Document Supply Solution (IRMDS) to replace the current legacy systems. This PQQ forms part of that procurement exercise The British Library (BL) is one of the world’s greatest libraries. Its collection includes over 150 million items and around 3 million new items are added each year, including one copy of every publication produced in the UK and Ireland. In addition to its renowned reading rooms, the Library provides access to its collections via one of the world’s leading remote document supply services, supporting researchers from the UK Higher Education (HE) and commercial sectors as well as individuals from all around the world. The BL intends to replace much of the technical infrastructure and business process that underpin the current document supply service. The goal is to improve and extend the service that we currently offer to our customers, with a major emphasis on the Higher Education community, improving customer service levels and enhancing the customer experience. The new infrastructure should be extensible and capable of supporting the addition of future services. The Library is interested in a range of solutions. We will consider both integrated solutions and a set of "off the shelf" components or services that can be integrated both with each other and with our existing infrastructure to allow for enterprise re-use of the embedded services by other business needs or solutions. The solution needs to be extensible and facilitate the addition of future services. Suppliers should consider responding even if their solution only addresses part of the requirement.
