DIGITISATION OF UK THESES

Tender description

The Library, in association with UK Higher Education, is proposing to embark on a significant programme to digitise UK theses. The Electronic Thesis On-Line Service (EThOS) aims to offer a one-stop shop for Researchers to locate and obtain the content of any UK thesis. In order to achieve this aim the service will digitise paper theses and offer them from a central server housed at the British Library. There are currently 500,000 paper theses stored in UK Higher Education institutions around the UK. The aim of the UK Thesis Digitisation Project is to digitise a number of the most ‘popular’ theses in order to ‘seed’ the service. To achieve this programme, the Library wishes to tender for a framework contract to provide it with theses digitisation services. This framework contract, with a small number of suppliers, will run for up to four years and will provide the Library with a contract for known digitisation requirements and those that arise over the term of the contract. Please note that the final award of contract will be dependant on receiving the required funding for this project.
